Villa La Reina is situated on a very peaceful and intimate location in the natural reservat Limski kanal (Bay of Lim), which is one of the most beautiful landscapes of Istria. The channel is a bit longer than 10 km and it is on both sides surrounded with steep clifs sometimes 100 m high. Its name comes from the word „limes“, latin word for „border“. Limski kanal used to be a border between Pula’s and Poreè’s ager but today it is the border between Vrsar and Rovinj. The bottom of the channel hides many pieces of antique items. It is assumed that during „nevera“ (storm) antique ships were hiding in the channel and, while waiting for better weather, were cleaning the ships, throwing in the sea everything what did not survived the journey on a turbulent sea. At the area of Limski kanal is situated Romuld’s cave – archeological site from paleolitic and very interesting speleological object with cave’s decoration. Pirate’s cave is one of the caves along the Limski kanal and it is accessible only from the sea. The sea in Limski kanal is very clean, what is favourable for the cultivation of shellfish, spawning of fish and swimming. Limski kanal is very known for the cultivation of shellfish (which you can taste at the nearby restaurant or we can prepare them for you in our Villa). Name Lim fjord occured after filming the TheVikings in 1958 with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis in the leading roles. In that film Limski kanal has the „role“ of the fjord which was later used for commercial skpurposes until the viking settlement that was built above Limksi kanal collapsed.
